Women, being women, know that there are at least six or seven ways you can remove body hair and facial hair. Most of the time, none of them are pain-free. However, some are better for sensitive skin than others. If you have a dermatologist, there is a good chance that he/she trusts and uses only a couple different hair removal treatments for people with sensitive skin like yours.

Electrolysis

You might think that electrolysis, one of the oldest forms of hair removal would not be a good choice for sensitive skin. On the contrary, it is one of the best options. A tiny little zap of electricity to the root of each hair follicle and that hair will never grow back. While you may feel the little zaps, the electricity is not enough to damage your skin, nor will it cause redness or inflammation in the treated areas.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is even better than electrolysis. You never feel the laser wand as it glides over the skin, zapping up to ten hairs at a time. Your skin remains smooth and clear, and nary a single sensation can be felt during the process.

Birth Control Pills

Bet you never considered birth control pills an option for hair removal, did you? When you have excess hair caused by certain hormones, such as higher than normal testosterone, birth control pills lower these hormones in the body. You end up with two side effects; clearer skin with less acne, and less hair over most of your body. Of course, you will have to have your hormone levels tested before you are able to pursue this course of action for unwanted hair.

Why These Three Are the Most Trusted by Your Dermatologist

All three of the above hair removal treatments are the most trusted by your dermatologist for sensitive skin because they do no harm to your skin. They also are pain-free, they will not cause redness, swelling, or inflammation of your sensitive skin, and the hair removal is permanent. (The only exception is the birth control approach, and only if you were to start taking other hormone pills for growth or sex reassignment and stop taking the birth control.)

Waxing and sugaring, while ultimately permanent, are not recommended for sensitive skin. This is because they cause a lot of pain and inflammation. They will make your skin red and swollen for several hours afterward, so it is best to avoid these options.
